I lost a team member today. The bad part is that he was really good at all things networking from the routers down. The problem with the guy is that he can't handle pressure at all. He burries everything, everything pisses him off and then he explodes. Apparenly he's deep into this cycle. The other day I was pushing him pretty about the network design, and saying why this or that can't be done. I told him that it needs to be a certain way and it can be done because that's how it is right now, so whatever it takes figure out a way to make it work. We went back and forth for a few minutes and I finally told him to go away, find a solution and don't come back until he has one, which he did. I was quite pleased. Right about the same time he had a little tiff with Gene about something or other, and then he starts talking about how he doesn't see a future for himself here and how we don't need a network engineer (if only you knew little man), then he ups and quits. Yesterday he bailed early and today he only came in for a couple of hours.
The thing is, when he first started I had some reservation about giving him the password list. Now I'm glad that I didn't. He seems to be one of those guy's who's got a lot of pent up anger and can't handle stress. Well, tough luck for him, but I'm glad to be rid of him now. It sucks to lose somebody who's got a good skillset, but I'd rather have someone a little less skilled and able to admit "hey, I don't know how to do this" than to be stuck with a guy with as many emotional problems as him. No thanks, I'll do it myself.
